IT’S OFFICIAL! 🔥 Jeff Unveils the Full ‘Survivor 51’ Cast – See the Complete List
After celebrating its milestone 50th season, Survivor is getting ready to usher in a new era.
Survivor 51 premieres Sept. 23, as a new group of castaways heads to Fiji to compete for the show’s $1 million prize.
The season comes just months after the end of Survivor 50, which reunited former contestants from across the franchise and saw Aubry Bracco crowned the winner.
This time, there are no returning players. Instead, the CBS show is introducing an entirely new cast and launching what host Jeff Probst has called the “Open Era.”
The network has already released a first-look trailer and revealed a handful of details ahead of the premiere, though many of the season’s biggest surprises — including who the castaways are — remain under wraps.
Here’s everything we know about Survivor 51 so far.
When does ‘Survivor 51’ premiere?
Survivor 51 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. The new season will once again consist of 90-minute episodes that will also stream on Paramount+.
What is the ‘Survivor’ Open Era?
The Open Era follows the show’s New Era, which began with Survivor 41 in 2021. The format shake-up is designed to make the game more unpredictable than ever, according to Probst.
“The Open Era is taking the massive uncertainty [from Survivor 50] and making it permanent,” he said, in the Survivor 50 finale. “The idea is that anything that has ever happened at any time on the show can happen in any season, at any time, in any order — without any warning.”
In the season’s trailer, Probst called Survivor 51 “a shape-shifting game” that delivers “permanent uncertainty.” He added, “For the first time ever, our entire history — every advantage, every idol, every twist we’ve ever done, 50 seasons of Survivor — is in play… along with dangerous new elements never seen before.”
Who is in the ‘Survivor 51’ cast?
Unlike Survivor 50, where former players returned to the show, Survivor 51 will feature a cast of first-time contestants. CBS has not yet announced their names.
Probst told Variety in May that another season with returning cast members could happen in the future. “There’s nothing on the horizon, but they’re very fun to do — for us as well,” he said.
“And now we have enough players, we might be able to pull off something that includes returning players sooner than the period of time we had since the last one. But I don’t know. We know what we’re doing for 51 and 52. That’s it.”
Where was ‘Survivor 51’ filmed?
Survivor 51 was filmed on Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands, which have been the show’s home since Season 33.
Speaking at an event in May, Probst said the location was “a logistics issue and not really a creative choice.” He added, “Fiji has actually saved Survivor, and our relationship with their government and all the landowners is amazing. If that changed, we’d be back looking desperately for somewhere.”
