Survivor fans finally have an official date to mark on their calendars, but CBS is also making a notable scheduling adjustment for the upcoming season.

CBS has confirmed that Survivor 51 will officially premiere on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, kicking off the new season with an expanded two-hour episode airing from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The supersized premiere will give viewers an extended first look at the new group of castaways as they begin their battle for the $1 million prize and the title of Sole Survivor.

However, the two-hour format will not continue for the remainder of the season.

Beginning Wednesday, September 30, Survivor 51 will settle into its regular weekly time slot from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., meaning subsequent episodes will run for approximately 90 minutes.

The move continues the longer episode format that has become familiar to Survivor viewers in recent seasons. While the show traditionally aired in a one-hour slot for much of its history, the expanded runtime gives producers more room to show camp life, strategy conversations, challenges and Tribal Council.

For Season 51, the longer premiere could be especially important as the show introduces a fresh group of contestants and establishes the alliances and rivalries that will shape the early game.

The scheduling announcement also confirms that Survivor remains a major part of CBS’ Wednesday-night lineup for the 2026–2027 television season.

After celebrating a major milestone with its 50th season, the franchise is now moving into its next chapter. Expectations surrounding Season 51 are already high, particularly as fans wait to see how the series will evolve after such a significant anniversary season.

CBS has not indicated that the schedule adjustment represents any reduction in its commitment to the franchise. Instead, the network is giving the premiere a larger two-hour launch before returning the series to its established 90-minute weekly format.

For longtime viewers, that means the wait is almost over.
