On Tuesday, Aug. 18, Janelle, 57, shared the shocking news that she’s been dating Pete privately for some time now.
“Some chapters are meant to unfold quietly before they’re shared,” she captioned a selfie with her new man on Instagram. “I wasn’t looking. I certainly wasn’t expecting you. And somehow, you turned out to be exactly what I didn’t know I needed. And it has been pretty wonderful. 🩷Everyone please meet Pete.”
The new relationship comes four years after Janelle announced the end of her 29-year spiritual marriage to ex-husband, Kody Brown. The fallout from their split was well-documented on their family’s TLC reality show.

The former couple, who share six children, were spiritually married in 1993, marking Kody’s second marriage. After Christine split from Kody in 2021, Janelle followed suit in 2022. Then Kody’s first wife, Meri Brown, ended her marriage to him in 2023 after years of estrangement. The polygamist’s only remaining marriage is to Robyn Brown whom he legally married in 2014.
Christine remarried Woolley in 2023, but Janelle had previously maintained that she was not interested in dating or remarrying after her split from Kody.
In a February 2025 appearance on the Sibling Revelry podcast, Janelle shut down the idea of opening herself back up to love.
“My marriage is over. I don’t know what I’m gonna do,” she confessed at the time. “I’m not really interested in getting married again or even really dating at this stage.”
And in a January 2026 episode of Sister Wives, she revealed that she’d received a “spiritual release” from her marriage to Kody through their church.
“I have it,” Janelle said in the episode while holding up the release paper. “That was easy. I thought I was going to have to come back for a second meeting. I am free. I am free. I am free. I am free.”

After splitting from Kody, Janelle relocated to North Carolina to be close to her and Kody’s daughter, Madison Brush, and her grandchildren.
Janelle and Kody also share kids Logan, 30, Hunter, 28, Gabriel, 23, and Savannah, 20. Their son Garrison died by suicide in 2024. Kody’s estrangement from his children played a large factor in Janelle’s split from the polygamist.
